- Your batteries will need a charger. But If you already have one. Save some money and forgoe the extra un-needed charger.
- OEM Vertical Battery Grip BG-E2N (With 2 Batteries)
- An External Battery may be the best option for those Multiple Hour Time Lapses, The Battery Grip, is the next best option, you'll get twice as many photos, And be able to change the batteries without having to pull the camera off the tripod or telescope.
- CLS Light Pollution, Clip In filter for EOS APS-C cameras.
- Produced By Optolong. Although this Filter is, of a less expensive brand, & Shipped From China, This filter will give you a very good start in Night Sky Photography, from within your city limits. The filter is not suggested for use in areas of very low light pollution. I have not tried the Astronomik filters for myself. (Examples photos coming soon.)
- 32GB UDMA-7 CF Card
- A Super Fast, Pro Series CF card. The speed of a UDMA-7 card is not entirelynecessary for this camera, however a 32GB card is highlyrecommendedfor Star Tracked Stacks and especially Star Trail - Time Lapse Stacks, And with the price I have these for, I'm sure you will be happy!
Also:Check out my other listings!!Spending $200 on 2 or more items Shipping is Free!!!I have Scientific & Astronomy filters that are most useful with Full Spectrum Cameras!IR Lens Filters for monochrome and False color photographyAs well as Clip in CLS (City Light Suppression) For Light Pollution reduction for Astro Photography, with EOS Full Frame and Crop Frame Cameras.
Canon 50D Full Spectrum (50Da or 50D Astro)-This camera has a modified CMOS sensor, it is sensitive to the full spectrum of light, from near-UV through near-IR. And can be anywhere from 2 to 3 full stops, more sensitive to light, Than a camera without the modification. (ie, a 1 hour long-exposure will appear as bright as a 3 hour long-exposure.) Likewise, 2 to 3 times as many stars will expose, with the same settings.
Generally, Full Spectrum Cameras are intended for Astro-Photography, But they have many other uses as well, wether for Artistic purposes or for Scientific application.
- Filter-less Black Light Photography is awesome!
- Narrow Band, Infrared or Ultraviolet Photography, is incredible as well.
- (Check out my other items for narrow band IR filters!)
- Another thing to try is (Filter-less) Monochrome Mode. This can be great for portraits. And is similar to some of the oldest forms of Photography.

However Customer Satisfaction is my goal, And functionality is guaranteed!I offerAt-Cost-Repairsfor the camera sold, up to 30 days after sale date, Repairs may take some time due to ordering replacement parts. More About This Camera Model, Canon 50D:The EOS 50D is an upgrade to the 40D (Another One of my personal favorite cameras, That I also have available as a Full Spectrum camera here on ebay.)The 50D has three primary differences from the 40D. It has a 50% bump in Image Resolution, as well as 2 full Stops of Faster ISO settings, And finally a Micro Adjustment AutoFocus System. All three of these are features that were Very important factors in choosing this model specifically, to Modify, Work with in Astro-Photography, and to offer here in my store. I have been working with both of these camera models Since they were originally released back in 2007 and 2008.
The 50D Is an older model DSLR, however these Pro-Sumer level cameras are built with a Long shutter life expectancy of 150K actuations. And Having an awesome balance of Resolution, File Size, and Functionality, especially when considering the Price. (Being 15Mpx, you will want at least a 16 or 32GB CF card especially if you want to create Astro Time Lapses. Where as a 4GB will be sufficient with the 40D.)
These two camera models were for a long period of time some of the more popular models to convert to Full Spectrum. And they even continue to be popular models to use by Astronomer Photographers. If your looking, specifically, for a Full-Spectrum camera, and Only need it for Still Photography, the 50D is An Excellent choice! Having a lower price tag,Live View functionality, AND the Micro Adjusting AF system! As well as having the functionality (buttons and dial layout) and Shutter expectancy of the Professional camera. The Layout and Shutter type, are the Same as the lower end compact Professional level DSLRs, like the 7D, 7D II, or the 5D (I,II,III & IV).
Seller History in Repair & Modification:
Rest assured, I am a professional in computer and small electronic repair, and I am now applying my skills and knowledge to the field of DSLR repair and modification. Most of the cameras I have up for sale, (As well as ALL of the cameras I currently own) were purchased as non-functional cameras. They were all purchased with the intent to repair and modify, and I have had a great success rate of successful repairs and conversions.
Last year, Mid Project Modification, the First Camera I ever modified, a Broken Canon 40D. And early this year, the camera became my first DSLR sale here on ebay.
The camera currently up for sale however is the 5th DSLR I've modified.
History & Repairs, of The camera up for sale:
As with most of my cameras, the 50D Full Spectrum in this listing, was purchased with intent on refurbishment, modification and resale. Immediately I modified the camera, And so far, I’ve taken less than 20 photographs with it. The camera looks and functions like brand new camera, right out of the box!
Though until, this camera sells, I maysporadicallyuse it, to produce a small portion of my own personal work.
Hot Mirror and UV Filter are removed and the Sensor Depth has been adjusted. A Sensor Depth Adjustment also needs to be performed, due to the removal of those filters attached to the sensor. Because I have made this adjustment, All Lenses and Telescopes DO, AND WILL function properly!
And lenses will focus as intended with the camera. This means that Manual Focus as well as Auto Focus will function properly with All lenses. This also means that, for a person with good vision, the tiny View Finder Adjustment Dial should be set to 0, exactly between the + & - marks.
Additionally the Micro adjusting AF System may be helpful as well.
(Please note the Micro Adjust AF System. Has nothing to do with the sensor or the filters that were removed. The Micro Adjust Focus, is for Auto Focus Only, and only works when utilizing Auto Focus, or with Focus Confirmation. So the Micro adjust may not any extra advantage with certain Manual Focus Lenses, Telescopes or Older Non-EF lenses.)
Also, As with any Full spectrum Modified camera, the camera (And the Light meter) does react to light differently than you might otherwise expect. The Camera is Not Broken, And it IS functioning properly. Because of this, I Can Not offer refunds, but I can offer support and advice. I have found that the light meter does not account for the full volume of Infrared or Ultraviolet light. It is a good idea to check Image Histograms after capturing a photo or two, and perform any modification of exposure settings before continuing. Under direct Sunlight I have found a modified camera of this model to over expose by about 2 stops. This, and the lighting situation, should be taken into consideration. However working with a camera with this modification, there are numerous reasons the effect might be desired, as shown in a few example Photos below.Under artificial light, though, depending on the bulb type, the light meter may be more accurate and the camera will expose properly. And look like any regular photo.
Though with Night Time and Star photography, "Exposing to the Right" will still be the best method, and I just use the same or very similar settings as otherwise.
More than just Full Spectrum Camera: By using a Low/Short band Pass filter, Long/High band pass filter, or Dual Band pass filter, UV, nUV and/or IR, nIR photography can also be achieved.
IR photography with a Proper White balanced, using 800nm or above will be very similar to some of the oldest forms of Black and White photography. I sell Filters as well.
I have yet to use the 50Da for any serious work, nor have I used this model with this modification, however I will Soon start using this camera, and have more example images to show.
In lieu, The Images below were captured With the very similar, Full Spectrum Canon 40D.
Reason for selling. And the Story behind my Store.
I'm an Artist-photographer, But I also have a descent background with Electronics. Years before receiving My Bachelor’s degree in Photography and Graphic Design, My original major was actually Computer and Electric Engineering.
Well Last year, I let a Huge mass of Cameras go, Selling a number 35mm and Medium format cameras and lenses, With a partial trade of a non working EOS 40D. It was also the second of this model I had yet owned. Upon acquiring the camera, I had full intent on trying my hand at UV, IR, or a Full Spectrum modification, Mostly for the purpose of Astro-Photography. After successfully repairing the camera, and Then Modifying it. My thirst had not ben quenched. I wanted one with a Full Frame. I then acquired two non working Full Frame cameras of the model EOS 5D, The Original, The Classic. and I performed the same tasks.
So beginning earlier this year, I embarked on a newendeavor. After repairs had been made, two had been modified. I Was using all of these cameras myself as a Nature, Astro, & Wild Life Photographer. But after such success stories of repair and modification, I become more confident in my skills in the task.It wasn't long before, I considered making money on the skill itself. I acquired a few more broken cameras for repair and began selling. The monetary aspect, has been used mostly in order to supply, and fund my own addiction, Yes, in Photography! But also because I felt that I could, or Should, make moreavailable, these Cameras, that I Love, as well as keeping them alive with said repairs. While alsomaking some money Through these skills as well...
Obviously since the original modification of the 40D, and the 5D. I have added a line of 50D cameras, And now I have a 5D Mark II in the works.
Over time I plan on replacing the cameras that I sell, with more non working DSLRs, Possibly of the same or similar models, in order to Repair, Modify, Prove/Use, and resell, and again upgrade, while Rotating my stock. Although my primary selling product will probably be the Full Spectrum versions, I want also to sell cameras that have not yet been modified (just as I also use Non Modified Cameras). So that's my business plan.
In the future, I Also plan on having a line or two of Nikon Full Spectrum cameras, but at least for the moment, I will be sticking to the EOS family.
